Professional Experience

My career is based on a varied background. As a youth, I trained in the performing arts and began performance in theatre and Scottish Highland dancing. Accelerated high school classes yielded my love of language and history. As a young adult, I moved to Hawaiʻi where I taught performing arts classes, helped organize Hawaiian Highland Games, and served as Volunteer Talent Coordinator for the Training Division of the Honolulu Police Department. In Newport, Rhode Island (where my husband was assigned to the U. S. Naval Education and Training Center), I worked as a freelance writer and promotional consultant. Returning to Hawaiʻi, I continued my consultancy and expanded my writing to include fiction and non-fiction.

Education and Memberships

After becoming a certified member of the British Association of Teachers of Dancing, Highland Dance genre, I moved to Honolulu. There I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with distinction in history at the University of Hawaiʻi, Mānoa campus. I then worked as a graduate teaching assistant in the university’s World Civilizations program while taking graduate courses in Asian history. My professional memberships include: The Phi Beta Kappa Society; the Phi Alpha Theta National history Society; the National Writers Union; Sisters in Crime; Arizona Authors Association; Tucson Sisters in Crime, and Arizona Mystery Writers. I am also a lifetime member of the British Association of Teachers of Dancing, Highland Dance genre.

Research and Authorship

From my teen years, I have enjoyed research and writing about many subjects. This background became invaluable in my work as an author. Working alone, or in tandem with other authors, my words have appeared in newspapers, periodicals, and books including: Newport This Week; Hawaiʻi Medical Journal; The Rotarian; Broker World; real estate publications; and the Arizona Authors Digest. I served as indexer, co-artistic director, and a co-author of the six author themed anthology Under Sonoran Skies, Prose and Poetry from the High Desert. Most of my writing now features the multiculturalism, pan-Pacific history and lush environs of Hawaiʻi, where I lived for more than twenty years.

As a youth and young adult, I trained and performed in
theatre and dance…and before moving to Honolulu I competed in a few final Highland Games…

The award-winning Natalie Seachrist Visionary Hawaiian Cozy Mysteries are the focus of my current work. While they do not need to be read sequentially, each offers continuing stories of Natalie, her twin Nathan (a consulting psychologist), her feline companion Miss Una, (helper in all things murderous), Keʻoni Hewitt (private investigator and sweetheart), and his former colleague, homicide detective John Dias of the Honolulu Police Department. Here is my narration of the first chapter of Prospect for Murder
